Customs Compliance Manager

Our client is seeking a Customs Compliance Manager to oversee customs compliance practices within a large customs team based in their Dublin facility. This role supports all customs compliance and operational matters for their Ireland and UK sites. The successful candidate will lead an experienced customs compliance team responsible for auditing, managing relationships with Revenue and HMRC, and resolving queries raised by operational teams, customs staff, and customers. Acting as the key point of contact for customs knowledge, queries, and compliance, this role requires a highly organised and proactive individual.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the in-house expert on all customs-related matters.
  • Manage AEO accreditation, queries, and general compliance.
  • Develop relationships and contacts within relevant customs departments.
  • Identify gaps, investigate queries, and provide feedback to the customs team.
  • Monitor new customs requirements, document changes, and communicate updates across the team.
  • Roll out training of new requirements as necessary.
  • Work with customs management to ensure processes remain compliant with customs regulations.
  • Develop new processes in response to system changes, customs updates, and best practices.
  • Oversee compliance of Common Transit consignments, both nationally and internationally.
  • Manage all necessary documentation for the company to operate on behalf of customers (Direct Representation, deferment facilities, etc.).
  • Liaise with customs authorities regarding clearance queries and audits.
  • Ensure control and updates to changes in the customs code.
  • Anticipate risks and delays, informing stakeholders to facilitate solutions and mitigation actions.
  • Collaborate with customs and operational teams in Ireland and the UK to develop common standards and share improvements in ways of working.
  • Oversee internal auditing processes, ensuring reports are produced weekly.
  • Ensure necessary re-training is completed and signed off by customs personnel.
  • Work closely with the customs office manager to roll out training as required.
  • Ensure customs clearance procedures are adhered to.
  • Support warehouse and administrative operational teams in ensuring customs compliance.
  • Assist in the daily management and release of goods under customs control.
  • Identify areas of improvement via the audit process and propose process enhancements.

Key Skills, Experience, and Qualities:

  • In-depth knowledge of customs clearance requirements and procedures.
  • Minimum of 3 years\’ experience delivering customer service in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Strong understanding of supply chains and the freight forwarding sector.
  • Results-driven, motivated self-starter.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • A collaborative approach to problem-solving.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and strong time management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of customs systems, regulatory requirements, and query resolution.
